Former PSC exec director passes away

Doroteo "Doty" Alegre, executive director under former Philippine Sports Commission chairman Cecil Hechanova, died yesterday of pneumonia. He was 76.
This was relayed yesterday by Jun Alegre, brother of the deceased and currently with broadcast media. The late Alegre is the uncle of former STAR reporter Ricky Alegre and former sportswriter Peter Alegre.
Alegre was PSC executive director from 1986 to 1992 and was coach of the Philippine track and field team that competed in the 1968 Mexico Olympics.
He graduated with a bachelors degree in physical education in 1952 from Silliman University. He was PE teacher for 30 years at the Sorsogon National High School and Bicol U in Sorsogon, Sorsogon where he once served as provincial board member. He was PE director of La Salle University for 30 years and later of Brent School in Baguio City before joining the PSC in 1986.
His remains lie in state at the Funeraria Veronica on Libertad St., Pasay City. The body will be brought tomorrow morning to Sorsogon where interment will take place.
He is survived by his wife, the former Concepcion Reveche, and children Deng-Deng, Bong-Bong, Bobbit and Butch.
