Ateneo-Davao gains semis

ILIGAN CITY – Ateneo de Davao shaded Holy Cross of Bukidnon, 2-1, yesterday to make the semifinals of the all-Mindanao Coke Go-for-Goal under-16 football finals at the National Steel Corp. field here.

Napoleon Nidea knocked his third goal in the tourney in the 77th minute to give the Ateneans a sweep of their two assignments in Group A.

Clifford Dacera gave the Davao boys a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute, but Bukidon’s Rey Tao-on knotted the count in the 47th.

Dipolog champion Andres Bonifacio College blasted Agusan National High, 5-1, in the other game after battling 14-time Mindanao titlist La Salle Academy to a scoreless draw in Saturday’s opener.

Reginald Jukes sparkled for the Dipolog booters by scoring two goals. The other Dipolog scorers were Mark Potestades, Patrick Manucas and Je-lord Paghasian.
