Rosales, Que are Southpoint’s longest hitters

-
LPGA campaigner Jennifer Rosales and newly-crowned First Gentleman’s Professional Golf Circuit leg winner Angelo Que showed their class in topping the first Philippine Longest Drive Tournament at the Southpoint Driving Range last Saturday.

Que, who recently won the Iloilo leg of the pro tour as a rookie, went over the fence for a carry of at least 290 yards under a drizzle and went home with the men’s division title.

There was nobody powerful enough to challenge Rosales, who is coming from her most fruitful campaign in the LPGA in three years. Making a special appearance, she hit a drive of 250 yards in her first try and no one dared to challenge.

Carlos Sainz, son of a Bolivian married to a Filipino based in Ilinois, joined the winners’ roster by ruling the boys division.

Katrina Gonzales won the girls division while Japanese expert Kawakami was the strongest among the seniors who joined the power contest which was the highlight of Cub Fest 2002.

Southpoint general manager Bong Lopez and event organizer Madju Arevalo of The Golf Authority said that with the success of the event, they are inclined to stage a bigger one next year.

Club Fest featured exhibitions by top equipment distributors among them Callaway, Odyssey, Titleist, Cobra, Footjoy, Mizuno, La Zolla, Nike, Cleveland, Ben Hogan, Sonartech, Ping, Never Compromise, Bridgestone, Orlimar, Tour Stage, Wilson and Accuflex.

The events were sponsored by PLDT Business Solutions, Southeast Asian Airlines and 357 Boracay with television coverage provided by Dream Golf Channel.
