Cordero, Arambulo snare overall gold

Asian Gamer Marvin Cordero and compound bow division champion Raul Ramon Arambulo lived up to expectations last Saturday by bagging the overall individual gold medals in the ongoing National Target Archery Championships at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Cordero, of Canama Archery Club, shot 117 points to whip Nerickzon Fraginal (107) and Bryan Carlo Figueroa in the recurve division while IPK-2 Blue’s Arambulo chalked up 111 points to nip Earl Yap (110) and Daniel Cruz (110).

Florante Matan and Aaron dela Cruz shared the honors by ruling the men’s adult and FITA competitive categories, respectively.

Matan tallied 109 points to finish ahead of Bryan Carlo Figueroa (107) and Cordero, while Dela Cruz carded 106 to topple Mitchelle Panilac and Russelle Lloyd Reyes (93).

Earl Benjamin Yap topped the men’s adult compound division with 111, one ahead of Arambulo and Enrique Fernandez.

Fernandez bounced back to bag the Master level gold over Nestor de Castro via a shootoff, winning 10-8 after they had finished tied at 106. Bernard Yap took the bronze with 104.

Dr. Juan Nanagas emerged as Master recurve champ with 146 points.
