RP bets claim top honors in BMW Cup

-
The Philippine team scored a surprising victory in the nation category of the BMW Golf Cup International 2002 beating top favorite Japan. Roland Garcia, Pedro Silo and Nancy Co managed to outclass their Japanese rivals with a total of 328 points.

It was a close fight between the Philippines and Japan with the Japanese team scoring a total of 228 points the previous day-eleven points ahead of the Philippine team, which had a total of 217 points.

For three days 117 amateur players from 39 countries saw action in the breathtaking Eldorado Golf Club in Los Cabos, Mexico for a chance to win the prestigious BMW Golf Cup.

Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the 18-hole championship course challenged the finalists right from the beginning. The course, which extends about 7,000 yards for men and about 5,000 yards for ladies, is composed of strategically-placed bunkers and water hazards as well as sleek greens.

This is the second year that the Philippines participated in BMW Golf Cup International. First held in 1988, this tournament has grown to be the largest and most prestigious amateur golf tournament in the world, bringing together more than 100,000 players every year.

The BMW Golf Cup International is exclusively conducted for BMW owners from around the world.

Players start on regional levels, with qualifying tournaments held by the authorized BMW dealers. The most successful players in these tournaments then go on to play in the National Finals, competing for the grand prize, the chance to represent their country at the World Finals.

The Philippine tournaments were sponsored by TaylorMade, Jack Nicklaus, Lancome Paris and Armani
