Aguilar, Dela Cruz pull off 1-2 finish in Tagum m’cross

-
Daredevil riders Glenn Aguilar and Bebet dela Cruz once again stamped their class against a powerhouse field as the duo gave Caltex-Revtex-KTM a 1-2 finish in the 1st Diocesan Clergy of Tagum Invitational Motocross before a roaring crowd in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, recently.

Aguilar, who is coming off a third place finish in the tough KL Supercross and an awesome championship ride in the first Gov. Evaristo ‘Titong’ Singson Memorial Cup in Vigan, paced the field majority of the way en route to the win.

Only teammate Dela Cruz was able to give Aguilar a decent fight in the tough one-day race, where the Caltex duo shoved their rivals to the backseat of the race held in cooperation with the provincial government of Davao del Norte, ComVal province, City of Tagum.

Popeye Rubi emerged third while Superferry Motocross overall pro open leader Ernie Leongson and Jovie Saulog failed to land in the top 5.

The two Caltex star riders again look forward to a swashbuckling show in the final leg of the Superferry National Motocross Super Series 2002, which blasts off Nov. 22 -23 at the PAMRI Racetracks, Army Adventure Zone in Taguig, Metro Manila.

"It has been an up-and-down season for me because of the injury that forced me to sit out three legs of the series. But I certainly would like to end the year with a bang and show everyone what a healthy Aguilar is capable of," said the top Caltex rider.

Aguilar, who for the past months has allowed his rivals to grab the spotlight due to a back injury that has forced him out of action, was even deadlier this time as he left his opponents scrambling in the trail of his dust.

"The entire Caltex-Revtex team vows to end the motocross season in a blaze of glory," said Caltex-Revtex-KTM team manager Ner Marquez Dormiendo. "If we can just make a trouble-free ride without any hitches or injuries whatsoever, I know we will all be fine."

Aguilar, who is also supported by Oakley, Pro Grip, Dreambikes, is the country’s only national rider of the year for six consecutive years, a record still unmatched to this day.
