Sobrepeña, Agcaoili lead Fil-Am body

-
One of the reasons the Fil-Am golf invitationl championship in Baguio City is one of the country’s most successful golf tournaments that have lured players from all over the world is due to the men at the helm of the golfest’s organization.

Sharing the top spot in the executive committee of the Fil-Am Golf Association are honorary chairmen Federico Agcaoili, president of the Baguio Country Club, and Robert John Sobrepeña, chairman of the Camp John Hay Golf Club.

Through their leadership, not to mention their shared notion that cooperation is vital, Agcaoili, the golfing lawyer, and Sobrepeña, the golfing real estate tycoon, the Fil-Am is now a must-play happening.

Under their watch, the Fil-Am became the first Philippine-sporting event that made it to the Guinness Book of World Records as "the largest amateur tournament."

The 53rd edition of the Fil-Am will be played Dec. 2-7 at the challenging golf courses of Baguio Country Club and Camp John Hay with Smart Communications as major presenter and CAP, Northwest Airlines, Baron Travel, Wilson, Premiere Wines, San Miguel Corp., JPDC, and BCDA as major sponsors. Other backers are Bluecross, Caltex, and U-Bix Corp.

Baguio Country Club general manager Anthony de Leon and his opposite number at the Camp John Hay Golf Club, Heiner Maulbecker, are the executive committee’s co-chairmen.

Completing the executive committee are members Alfredo Mendoza, Adrian Pantaleon, Benigno Cabrieto, Robert Legaspi, Luis Sison, Peter Natividad, Mine Anton, Nanette Filler and Salvador Navarrete.

Comprising the tournament committee, who are hired to ensure the smooth management of the tournament, are chairman Taby Tabaniag and members Al Mendoza, Jake Ayson, Toots Aquino and Butch Brodett.
