Big start by Magallanes in Intervillage final

-
Magallanes made clear its intention to go all the way this year when it scored 320 Stableford points Monday and showed the way after the first round of the Nokia Grand Intervillage at the testy Faldo course of the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Gen. Trias, Cavite.

Igniting Magallanes’ fiery show was JR Plata who turned in 38 points in the 12-to-play, ten-to-count tournament sponsored by Nokia, the world leader in mobile communication.

Also counting for Magallanes in the first 18 holes of the Nokia Grand Intervillage were Tony Katigbak (34), Alfredo Legaspi (34), Manolo Agojo (33), Rodel Mangulabnan (33), Emeline Mangulabnan (32), Raymond Silvestre (31), Sonny Rivera (30), Noel Legaspi (30) and Luke Gaston (25). The two other members of the team are VG Martinez (23) and Jovi Buencamino (20).

The tournament, aimed at fostering camaraderie among golfers in the different villages in Metro Manila, is also sponsored by PLDT, Alaxan, Planet Wine and More Gallery, ICTSI, Mastercard, Philippine Airlines, Mizuno, National Sports Grill, Pisanti and Boracay 357.

The 12 teams in the tournament were selected through a series of qualifying tournaments involving 40 villages in Metro Manila after which the winners were divided into three divisions.

The over-all champion, however, may come from any of the three divisions. Leading Division A after the first 18 holes was Greenhills 1 (302), followed by Corinthian (301) and Alabang 400 (231) while pacing Division B was Philam Homes (306), followed by Tahanan (285) and Greenhills 2 (224). In Division C, Don Enrique Heights is on top with 303, followed by BF Homes (281), Valle Verde 1 (272), and Greenmeadows (257).
