PCA, V’ Verde lead winners

Top seed Philippine Columbian Association, No. 2 Valle Verde, No. 3 Hillsborough and No. 4 Veterans prevailed last Saturday in the PCA Open Interclub Team Tennis at the PCA courts.

PCA, bannered by Ed Reyes, Conrad Francisco, Hector Dimacali, Albert Chiu, Beeyong Sison and Charlie Niu defeated Accel, 3-2, while Valle Verde banked on Poppet Lizardo, Karl Santamaria, Rey Felix, Mel Miguel, Emil Erum and Ted Banas to post a 3-2 decision over Eusebio.

Hillsborough downed Celebrity, 4-1, thru the efforts of Tonico Climent, Jojo Tomacruz, Ronnie Tambunting, Morris Melendrez, Florencio Bulaong, Noel Tambunting, Jackie Tomacruz and Gerard Maronilla.

Veterans capitalized on Mark Grajeda, Randy de Guzman, Gary Tria, Eymard Capinpin, Jun Tongco and Albert Lim to beat University of the Philippines, 3-2.

Raymond Suarez, the star of the 1988 RP Davis Cup team against Japan, powered Manila Polo Club to a 4-1 conquest of UP last Sunday. Other winners were Villamor over Eusebio, 5-0, All-Mandaluyong over Accel, 4-1, and Camp Aguinaldo over Celebrity.

Meanwhile, Ateneo’s Mark Balce scored a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 victory over La Salle-Zobel’s Edwin Olivarez Jr., Xavier’s Joshua Tan Ho defeated Justin Echague, 6-3, 6-2, Lourdes School’s Gerard Michael Bago downed Jeffrey Villanueva, 1-6, 6-3, 3-0 (ret.) and Patrick Arevalo, a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Jonatahn Murrell to complete the boys’ 12-under semifinal cast in this event supported by Dunlop, Accel, Copacabana, San Miguel, Traffic, PBCOM, Ford, Sea Air and Tobys.
