Legaspi, Gangozo dominate executive chessfest

Gary Legaspi whipped Manny Yu in the last round to complete a rare six-game sweep in the Success section, while Rolando Gangozo emerged undefeated with four wins and two draws to top the Prosperity section in the fifth leg of the 2002 Philippine Executive Active Chess Express or PEACE 2002 held recently at the Land Bank Plaza in Malate, Manila.
A total of 50 participants competed in the one day event organized by the Active Chess Center of Asia (ACCA) in cooperation with Land Bank and Belgosa Media Systems. The sixth leg will be held on Nov. 30. Contact the ACCA at tel. nos. 892-8759 for details.
Engineer Robert Arellano defeated grand prix leader Jenny Mayor in the last round to finish alone in second place in the Success section with five points. Tyrone Guya took third spot with 4.5 points.
Bunched from 4th-8th places with four points each were Yu, Mayor, Alfredo Paez, defending champion Dennis San Juan and Ricky Navalta. Occupying 9th-11th places were Giovanni Dy, Noel Garcia and Jose Zulueta with 3.5 points apiece.
