Age-groupers clash in PCA Open juniors

The country’s best age-group players are expected to see action in the Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open Juniors Tennis Championships slated next month at the PCA courts.

The first round will be held Nov. 2-3 while the second round until the quarterfinals will be on Nov. 8-10. Events on tap are boys and girls 18-under, 16-under, 14-under, 12-under and unisex 10-under divisions.

Players who wish to join may register with tournament referee Boy Leonora and Loida Mallare at Philta (5256434) or Bobby Mangunay (0918-9330448) and Jeng Antaran (0918-9367461) at PCA (5638501 loc. 132, 113, 131). Entry fee is P200 for singles.

Meanwhile, registration is also ongoing for the men’s and women’s Open slated Nov. 12-24 at the indoor courts. Deadline of entry is Nov. 9 while the draw for the qualifying and main draw will be held on Nov. 10. Qualifying rounds will run from Nov. 12-15. Entry fees are P300 for singles and P500 for doubles.

Lending support to this year’s PCA Open, billed as the longest-running and most prestigious netfest in the country, are Dunlop, Accel, Copacabana, San Miguel, Traffic, PBCOM, Ford, Sea Air and Tobys.

Total cash at stake is P400,000 with the men’s singles champion earning P80,000 and the women’s singles winner pocketing P30,000. Doubles winners get P18,000 (men’s) and P8,000 (women’s).

National players Johnny Arcilla, Joseph Victorino, Adelo Abadia, Mike Mora III, Czarina Mae Arevalo, Patricia Santos, Charise Godoy and Berry Sepulveda will spearhead the campaigners in the Open division which will be participated in by players all over the country.
