Tan Ho, Ngo advance to semifinals

Xavier School’s Joshua Tan Ho defeated La Salle-Zobel’s Edwin Olivarez Jr., 7-6 (5), 6-1, yesterday to reach the boys’ 12-under semifinals in the Philta Classic 4 age-group tournament at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Lourdes School’s Gerard Ngo also advanced following a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 victory over Jose Lorenzo Opulencia.

In the unisex 10-under class, Bernardine Siso of Cebu downed John Marie Altiche, 6-1, 6-0, to arrange a semifinal meeting with Akio Sy, a 6-0, 5-7, 6-1 winner over Paul Nicole Magaway. In the other match, Joseph Baldonado beat Kim Ivon Saraza, 6-2, 6-1.

In the boys’ 14-under division, Ateneo’s Daniel Luis Macalino rallied past Mark Balce, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, to advance in the quarterfinals against schoolmate Christian Canlas, who scored a 6-0, 6-1 win over Raymarc Santiago.

Boys’ 16-under sixth seed Kyle Dandan of Colegio San Agustin outclassed Chung Soo Han, 6-1, 6-1.
