Manalo, Garcia elected to key Federation positions

Rogelio "Ogie" Manalo and Ricardo "Richie" Garcia were elected president and chairman, respectively, of the Federation of Golf Clubs Phils., Inc. during the organization’s recent election at the Manila Golf Club.

Others who made it to the board of directors were Earl McCarthy (vice chairman), Tito Avancena (vice president for finance), John Blanch (VP for development), Tomas Clemente III (VP for special events), Rudy Samson (treasurer), Benito Unchuan (asst. treasurer) and directors Conrad Nicholson Celdran, Gerard Hechanova and Jose Luis Gerardo Yulo.

Jose Crespo was named corporate secretary, Jose Modesto Ledesma III secretary-general, Porfirio Flores auditor and Manuel Chan Jr. legal consultant.

Committee heads are Jose Abejo and Dr. Carlo Magno for senior reciprocity, Andres Maglipon Jr. for handicapping, Hechanova and Valeriano Floro III for tournaments, Blanch and Cliff Friedman for tourism and Jack Imperial for junior golf.

They will serve a two-year term with the main task of handling the ongoing Federation Golf League and the forthcoming First Gentleman’s Philippine professional circuit.

Meanwhile, Canlubang ended the three-game winning streak of defending champion Forest Hills with a rousing 3-1 victory at the close of the first round of action in Federation League over the weekend.

Forest Hills (9 points) kept the solo lead in Group 3 despite the loss but Canlubang (8) jumped to third with the big win, half a point behind Manila Golf.

Eastridge and Wack Wack sent upstart Royal Northwoods crashing back to earth with crunching wins, allowing Valley to forge a tie for the top spot at 5 points. Valley deadlocked a visiting Southwoods, 2-2.

Sta. Elena vaulted into a share of the Group 1 lead with Mimosa at 9 points after blasting Orchard, 3-1.
