Women cue artists take center stage in dual meet

It’s the women’s turn to show their skills and prowess in billiards when the best players from Singapore and the Philippines figure in a dual meet on Aug. 24-25 at the Orosa Atrium of Robinsons Place Manila.

Singapore will parade Amy Hoe, Charlene Chai, Eunice Tang, Jef Tan, Ong Chew Hoon, and Ho Feng Xia against the Philippines’ Johanna Dee, Sheila dela Cruz, Nina Angeles, Rubilen Amit, Iris Ranola, Magda Say, Ruby Marces and Pinky Abad in the two-day event set from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The visiting cue artists are all veterans of various 9-ball, 8-ball and snooker championships in Singapore.

The tourney will be hosted by the newly-organized Philippine Women Players on Cue (PWPC) and sponsored by PAGCOR, Philippine Sports Commission, Brunswick, Bong Coo Sports Products Inc., Aramith, Simonis, Robinsons Place Manila, Coca-Cola, Hoopwear, Trapik.com, Grilla, Stars Venue, Express Card Business Station and Le Soleil de Boracay.

"This is the best time to show our countrymen, especially sports enthusiasts, that we also have talented women billiards players," says Tetchie Remondeulaz, PWPC vice president.

Other PWPC officials are multi-titled bowler Bong Coo, president; Pinky Abad, secretary general; Evelyn Reyes, treasurer; Rhea Adam, press relations officer; Nancy Paguio, auditor; and Lou Bontogon, director.

The Singapore-RP duel will actually kick off the PWPC program, which aims to develop and promote billiards as a sport among women.

The PWPC aims to discover, develop and support young women billiards players for national and international competitions; and to provide facilities for training to ensure the growth of the sport.
