Jao takes another sweep; Borja, Retuya share honors

-
ROSARIO, BATANGAS – Jolet Jao of Shell Advance bounced back with another big sweep while Mandy Borja and Joel Retuya of Shell Racing once again split Formula Toyota Cup honors last weekend in the 2002 PCSO Grand Prix at the Batangas Racing Circuit here.

The multi-titled Jao flashed his usual form as he pulled away from the rest of the field in the Shell Advance Super Bikes Series

Proving he’s the best big bike rider in the land, Jao was already one kilometer ahead of his closest rival Toti Alberto of Access Plus-Ducati Manila as early as the third lap and even jacked up his lead with a fastest laptime of 1:42.319 on the next lap.

Alberto finished runner-up in both races. RS Racing’s Rod Scott finished third in the first race while Jeff Andres of J. A. Rapid Bike and Petron Blaze-Metzeler’s Wacky del Rosario wound up fourth and fifth, respectively.

In the second race, Andres took third place after Scott suffered engine problems. Del Rosario finished fourth while Randy Ortiz checked in fifth.

Borja, likewise, was unstoppable as he posted a fastest laptime of 1:33.470 on the fourth lap to rule the first race of the Formula Toyota Cup. Retuya checked in 1.063 seconds behind while Carlo Pastor and Victor Yap ended third and fourth, respectively.

However, Retuya was more effective on a slippery wet track in the second race brought about by afternoon showers. He took the pole after Borja almost spun out and pulled way ahead of the latter midway the shortened 11-lap race.
