First Family invited to PSC concert

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) intends to have President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the First Family in the audience of the Alay Sa Gintong Medalya concert to drum up more support for national athletes who will compete in the Busan Asian Games in September.

PSC chairman Eric Buhain, and commissioners William Ramirez, Leon Montemayor, Cynthia Carrion, and Michael Barredo said they will personally invite President Arroyo and the First Family in the fund-raising concert set 8 p.m. of Aug. 9 at the PhilSports Arena (formerly Ultra) in Pasig City.

"We would surely love to see the President and the First Family in the audience come concert night," said Buhain. "Her and her family’s presence would surely boost the event which is to drum up more support for national athletes."

Besides the President, the organizing PSC, added Buhain, also intends to invite other top government officials, including those from the Senate and House of Representatives, the Cabinet, and other local government heads.

"Here is one moment which could provide most of us a chance to support and cheer behind our athletes. We could not all be in Busan to cheer them in the Asian Games so here is that opportunity to send them off and bid them good luck," said Buhain.

Tickets to the concert, the proceeds of which would serve as supplemental funds for national athletes beginning with the Busan Asiad, are now on sale at all ShoeMart (SM) TicketNet outlets. Prices are pegged at P800, P600, P350 and P100.

Gary Valenciano heads a star-studded cast, which will perform in the Alay Sa Gintong Medalya concert, which will also launch Saan Ka Man Lumaban, a song written by Floy Quintos, also the concert’s director, with musical composition by Moy Ortiz with The CompanY and musical arrangement by Mark Lopez, intended to become the anthem of national athletes.

With Gary Valenciano are Vina Morales as special guest, South Border, True Faith, Parokya Ni Edgar, Mon Faustino and Powerplay, John Lapus, Jay Cayuca, RJ Rosales, the Sex Bomb Dancers, and the Casino Filipino Parañaque Voice Symphony.
