University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Team A, Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Team B, Xavier School and La Salle Greenhills stamped their class over a very tough field to emerge champions of the Adidas Streetball Challenge 2002 National Capital Region (NCR) eliminations held recently at the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.
The event is sponsored by Growee and WGA Zip in cooperation with Gatorade, Absolute pure distilled drinking water, Zed, Taylormade Golf, Salomon, Magic 89.9 DWTM and 99.5 RT.
Bull-strong Jojo Duncil tallied more than half of his teams total production to power UST-Team A to victory over College of St. Benilde squad, 13-9, and top the Seniors division. Duncil scored a game-high seven points and was ably supported by teammates Francis Allera, Andrew Dacanay and Michael Espa.
In the distaff side, it was an all-PUP showdown as PUP-Team B and PUP-Team C faced each other in the final. In the end, PUP-Team B, spearheaded by NCRAA Mythical Team member Genebeth Ramos, got the better of their opponents to prevail, 7-6.
Shifty guard Gabriel Sia made mincemeat out of the defense of Ateneo de Manila University to topscore for Xavier School and lead the Stallions to the win.
Xavier clobbered Ateneo, 16-12, to conquer the Juniors division. Backing Sia up were Woodward Co, Eric Dee and Rejan Lee.
