Mapua opened its campaign on a bright note yesterday after it dumped Philippine Christian University, 74-61, at the start of the NCAA juniors basketball season at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Hubalde had seven of his 15 points in a third-quarter run that broke a 30-30 halftime deadlock while Mariñas took charge in the fourth, icing the game with six of his 20 points.
Also winning on the first day of juniors competition were Jose Rizal College which tripped St. Benilde, 76-69, and San Sebastian which posted a 67-point victory over Perpetual Help College of Rizal, 97-30.
