Arnold Calo drilled in 15 of his 20 points in the final quarter as Blu Sun Power outplayed ICTSI-La Salle, 84-77, and arranged a best-of-five championship series against Ateneo-Hapee-Negros Navigation in the 2002 PBL Chairmans Cup at the Pasig Sports Center.
It was the first championship appearance for the Detergent Kings since they joined the league in the second conference of the 1998 season with a team led by Asi Taulava.
A perennial third placer, Blu Sun Power hopes to nail a major title after clinching the PBL-Cebu Basketball Federation Partnership Cup against Montana last February.
With the loss, ICTSI-La Salle was left to square off with Kutitap Toothpaste in a separate best-of-three series for third place.
"Its been a long time. Matagal na rin since nag-champion ako at matagal na ring minimithi ng Blu na makapasok sa finals. Nakaukol rin siguro," said Blu coach Leo Isaac.
