RP keglers show way in international bowlfest

Members of the RP bowling team continued to hold sway in both the singles and all- events of the 31st Boysen-PBC International Open at the Green Valley Country Club in Pasig.

Irene Benitez, Liza del Rosario and Ces Yap kept their 1-2-3 positions in the singles class O, with Benitez’ four-game series of 977 pinfalls still to be toppled in the meet which also serves as the third leg of the CGU Asian Bowling Tour 2002.

Her 1829 also topped the all-events class 0, followed by the 1711 of Yap and 1709 of Liza Clutario, another RP team member.

Danne Pomasin, however, relegated early class A leader of the same event, Rory Villena, to second when he rolled 790 pinfalls on the third day of the tournament sponsored by Boysen, Philipphine Sports Commission Prudential Guarantee, Prima Pasta, Bowlmart, ILO Construction, Regent Foods, Kegel Asia and Manila Galleria Suites, the official Hotel of the event.

Villena came two pinfalls short of his best game the previous day and settled with 776, with Aleson Go at third (764).

Lina Labaguis remained No. 1 in singles class B (740) while Liza Cochico (1488) and Jhie Rocabo (1466) also retained their positions in all events classes A and B, respectively.

PBAP-Bowlmart players are on top of both the class 0 men and ladies’ team event.

The trio of del Rosario, Clutario and Yap is in a close fight with the SLETBA-Youngstown threesome of nationals Jojo Canare, Ellen Ramos and Benitez (1175-1168) while Diego Candano, Jeremy Posadas and Dondon Tan barely ahead of TBAM-PRIMAS’ Richie Poblete, Paulo Valdez and Biboy Rivera (1302-1297).

The same holds true in the ladies class 0 doubles event where del Rosario and Yap (PBAP-Bowlmart) is ahead of Benitez and Canare (SLETBA-Youngstown) although Phenomena’s Art Oberio and Lloyd Tan pace the PBAP-Bowlmart duo of Frederick Ong and Larry Cua in the men’s side.
