Dandan reaches Tobys 16-U semis

Ninth seed Kyle Dandan of Colegio San Agustin defeated fourth seed Miguel Narvaez, 6-7, 6-2, 3-2 (ret.), yesterday to reach the boys 16-under semifinals in the Tobys-Philta Age Group Tennis Challenge at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Dandan will face second seed Janjie Soquino of Cebu, who defeated No. 8 Ralph Kevin Barte of Davao, 6-1, 6-4.
Third seed Arithmetico Lim of Chiang Kai Shek outclassed No. 6 Ed Angelo Diez of Davao City, 6-0, 6-1, to advance against No. 1 Michael Basco of Letran, a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 winner over No. 10 Raymond Villarete of La Salle-Greenhills.
In the boys 21-under category, No. 2 Patrick John Tierro of Olongapo City outlasted No. 8 Ian de Guzman of St. Benilde, 6-0, 6-7 (5), 6-4, to arrange a semifinal showdown with No. 7 Gino Bautista of Ateneo, who rallied past Nueva Ecijas Allan Agulto, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
Top seed Nino Salvador of San Sebastian College scored a hard-earned 7-5, 6-3 victory over Michael Tenoria to advance against third seed Johan Guba of La Salle, who struggled past unranked Jomar Arcilla of Letran, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2.
In the girls16-under division, No. 1 Bien Zoleta of Mary Hill College-Lucena City downed No. 9 Ara Micayabas of Bukidnon, 6-4, 6-4; third seed Ivy de Castro of Miriam survived No. 7 Melissa Orteza of La Salle-Zobel, 7-6 (2), 6-3 and No. 1 Catherine Flores of Bicol University pulled off a 6-3, 6-1 win over No. 12 Sherry Rose Ong of Isabela National High School to enter the Final Four.
In the unisex 10-under division, No. 1 Bernardine Siso of Cebu whipped No. 9 Juan Gabriel Peña, 6-1, 6-0, to advance in the semifinals against Davao Citys Robert Einstein Ortelano, a 6-2, 6-2 winner over third seed Akio Sy of New Life Learning Center. Fourth seed Martina Guba of Bacolod clobbered No. 7 Joseph Baldonado, 6-0, 6-1, to advance against No. 8 Francis Casey Alcantara of Cagayan de Oro, who beat John Altiche, 6-1, 6-2.
