Blu Detergent pulled off a lopsided 107-74 victory over RP Youth-Burlington yesterday to ensure its entry into the semifinals of the 2002 PBL Chairmans Cup at the Makati Coliseum.
Francis Machica drilled in 12 of his 22 points in the final quarter, leading the Detergent Kings to their sixth win in 10 games. The RP Juniors suffered their eighth loss.
In the second game, Al Vergara came through with clutch baskets in overtime as Shark Energy Drink survived Montana Pawnshop, 83-80, yesterday to keep its semis hopes alive.
Vergara scored six of his 10 points in overtime, bailing the Power Boosters out of trouble as the team notched their sixth win in 11 outings.
Ervin Sotto made a crucial follow-up shot with 3.2 seconds left in regulation play as Shark forced the overtime.
RP Youth-Burlington won the battle off the boards, 36-35, but committed 25 turnovers. Blu scored 31 points on those turnovers.
