Sportsfest marks Daet rites

Various sporting events, including a nationwide surfing meet, mark this years celebration of the Grand Pinyasan Festival in Daet, Camarines Norte.
Named after the provinces popular Formosa or queen of pineapple touted to be the sweetest in the world, the annual celebration is set June 15-24, coinciding with the Feast of St. John the Baptist.
Competitions in beach volleyball, cycling, marathon, paraw (boat) regatta, fishing, air rifle, mountain climbing, motocross and indigenous games highlight the staging of the 10-day festival.
"Through sports, we hope to promote Daet as an excellent tourist destination here in the country," said city Mayor Tito Sarion in yesterdays PSA Forum at the Holiday Inn.
In addition, Sarion said Daet was also chosen as one of the sites which will host the first Philippine Surfing Championship Tour.
