Amoranto-Holy Spirit shows way in QC Palaro

Amoranto-Holy Spirit emerged the biggest medal winner after it harvested seven gold medals in the action-packed taekwondo event yesterday in the first Batang Quezon City Palarong Panglungsod at the Amoranto Multi-Purpose Hall.
Christopher Nobleza and Ronald Lapiz led the Amoranto juggernaut by bagging a gold medal apiece in the mens senior advance division in this event organized by Quezon City Mayor Feliciano "Sonny" Belmonte and Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista.
Also delivering for Amoranto were Maricris Leynes (finweight novice), May Mendez (lightweight novice), Jessica Tajonera (welter novice), Cherryl Alonzo (middle-heavy) and Jovie Dayag (finweight novice).
Diliman Preparatory School came in second after it hauled six gold medals, the first by Gerrielyn Decatus delivered via a victory over Mica David of La Salle Quezon City in the advance bantam-feather class.
DPS other gold medal providers were John Paul Lizardo (fin advance), Edhlie Arellano (fly novice), Jyra Lizardo (42-45 grade school advance), Eugene Balot (fly-bamtam novice and Ralph Isip (heavy novice).
St. Mary and Far Eastern University-Paltok took home five gold medals apiece to finish at joint third place.
Marianne Camilet (light-welter advance), Adrian Bagioso (heavy advance), Grisham Camilet ( light advance), May Jimenez (bantam novice) and Francis Pastores (40-below grade school advance) accounted for St. Marys harvest.
FEU-Paltok, on the other hand, got its gold medals from Heraldine Quesade (bantam advance), Imee Esternon (light-welter advance), Joseph Agustin (light-welter novice), Joseph Hernandez (bantam advance) and Wendy Bobier (fin-fly advance).
In table tennis action, 21-year-old Christine Artigo of Barangay Kalusugan defeated younger sister Charity Artigo in the finals to clinch the gold for 21- year-old girls.
The 19-year-old Charity, also from Kalusugan, settled for the silver medal while Aleli Iglesias of Batasan took home the bronze.
Roxas Districts Michael Hipolito and Alexander Arroyo topped their respective brackets to barge into the crossover semis of the 21-year-old boys division.
Hipolito topped Group A to set up a semis match against Aemon Serquina of San Vicente while Arroyo swept Group B to arrange a match-up versus Lord Ombao of Salvacion in Saturdays final day of table tennis competition.
