Eagles still unscathed, Juzzers score

Newcomer John-O Juzz posted a lopsided 85-71 victory over the RP Youth squad yesterday while Ateneo ripped Blu Detergent, 58-48, for its third straight win in the PBL Chairman’s Cup at the Makati Coliseum.

Enrico Villanueva once again delivered the goods for the Eagles who are off to their hottest start in the PBL. The 6-foot-6 slotman had 21 points, nine rebounds and three blocks in helping his team take the solo lead.

"This is how I want them to play although we still have to polish some of the plays we’ve mapped out," said Ateneo coach Joel Banal, whose charges led by as many as 13 points, 49-36, early in the final quarter.

Bong Salvador carried the scoring load for the Juzzers who stunned Ana Freezers, 102-101, in the opening game last April 2 before losing to Blu Detergent, 69-76, last Monday.

Ramos led the team with 16 points on top of two rebounds and two assists while Froilan Baguion, who scored the game-winner against Ana, chipped in 11 points and seven assists.

It was the second straight loss for the RP Youth squad being sponsored by Burlington. Also winless after two games are Montana and Shark Energy Drink.

John-O Juzz won the battle off the boards, 48-43, leading to 35 fastbreak points and 18 on second-chance baskets. The Juzzers also forced their opponents to commit 33 turnovers.

Jobe Nkemakolam topscored for the Nationals with 17 points and seven rebounds while Jonathan Fernandez and Tim Gatchalian added 16 and 10 points, respectively.
