Speedfest 02 roars off in Pampanga
March 22, 2002 | 12:00am
The much-awaited MP Turbo Speedfest 2002 series starts this weekend in Pampanga with two of its main events, Autocross and Karting, taking centerstage in Auto Madness 2002.
Auto Madness 2002, presented by the Laus Group of Companies, BPI Family Bank and Robinsons Starmills-San Fernando, combines the automotive displays of major manufacturers and dealers with the fast and exciting sports featured in Speedfest.
The motorshow will give the Pampagueños an opportunity to see the latest automotive products plus another chance to see karting in their backyard.
"We are very happy to be invited by Auto Madness as their special events this weekend," said MP Turbo chief organizer Mike Potenciano. "We have been hoping since 1997 to come back to Pampanga. Now that we have the Laus Group hosting us, we will be able to bring the excitement back to the Pampangueños after a five-year break."
Speedfest combines the different disciplines of motorsports in one weekend and was successfully launched last November in Subic. This weekend features the first rounds of Autocross and Karting, which attracted participants from the old National Kart Series that MP Turbo organized from 1994-1997.
Autocross, which is like tarmac slaloms except that time brackets are used to determine the winner, debuts tomorrow.
The driver whose time is closest to the designated clocking for the bracket, without going over, wins the race.
