The Archers repulsed the Blu Detergent Kings, 83-73, Saturday to remain at the helm with an 8-3 (win-loss) record and another win versus the Teeth Sparklers at 5:30 p.m. will virtually assure them of one of the semifinal berths.
At second with a 7-4 slate are the Power Boosters, who are out to hold off the Welcoat Paint Masters and the Detergent Kings charges in the race for one of the two slots in the semis with a victory over the Freezer Makers at 3:30 p.m.
But ICTSI La Salle and Shark are expected to encounter stiff resistance from their rivals as Kutitap and Ana Freezers try to stave eliminations and remain in the hunt for four slots in the quarterfinals.
"Were not sure yet but I guess we have good chances (for the semis)," said ICTSI coach Franz Pumaren.
The Teeth Sparklers, for one, are seeking to make a fitting follow up on their stirring 73-72 triumph over the Paints Masters over the weekend that kept their bid alive. Kutitap totes a 6-6 card.
The Freezer Makers, on the other hand, are on the brink of early elimination with a 4-7 slate and are in a must-win situation over the fancied Power Boosters. The idle Ateneo-Pioneer Insurers also tote a 4-7 card, while the Montana Jewelers bring up the rear with a 3-9 mark.
"Ibubuhos na namin ang lahat sa mga huling laro namin dahil kailangang-kailangan ng manalo," said Ana coach and team owner Rudy Mendoza, who is expected to lean on Ronald Tubid, Paul Artadi, Ariel Capus, Roland Pascual and Ariel de Castro. The Freezer Makers actually beat the Power Boosters in overtime, 72-67, in the first round. Joey Villar
