De Castros dominate Manzano age group tilt

De Castro siblings Jandrick and Ivy marched into the championship round of their respective divisions yesterday in the fourth Armando Manzano Age Group Tennis Championships at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Jandrick, the boys’ 16-under No. 2, stamped his class over No. 8 Ed Angelo Diez, 6-3, 6-2, to advance against No. 6 Michael Basco, a 6-4, 6-1 winner over No. 7 Boris John Chaves.

Ivy, the girls’ 16-under second seed, outplayed third pick Katrina Pamintuan, 6-2, 6-1, to forge a titular duel with No. 1 Berry Sepulveda, a 6-3, 6-0 winner over fourth seed Catherine Flores.

Julie Em Botor, a fifth-grader at the Morning Jew School in Cainta, Rizal reached the girls’ 14-under and 12-under finals in this tournament sponsored by PSC, Viva Mineral Water and official ball Dunlop.

Botor, the 14-under third seed, scored a 6-1, 6-2 upset victory over No. 2 Denise Culaba to advance against top seed Melissa Orteza, a 6-1, 6-1 winner over fourth seed Michelle Bumgarner.
