NCRAA upholds EAC protest vs NCBA

-
Emilio Aguinaldo College earned the fourth and final quarterfinal slot in Group B as the National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) yesterday upheld the Generals’ protest against National College of Business and Arts.

NCRAA president Josefina Espino said the board found that NCBA’s Robert Solon violated the league’s one-year residency requirement upon evaluation of documents. With the league’s decision, NCBA forfeited all of its games in the seniors basketball tournament.

Solon played for the University of the Philippines from 1996 to 1999 in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines and enrolled only this year’s second semester at NCBA. Solon’s team beat EAC, 64-62, over the weekend and earned the berth via the winner-over-the-other rule until all its wins were reversed by the league.

The Generals, which moved to the quarters with a 5-3 card, joined Lyceum (8-0), Polytechnic University of the Philippines (6-2) and DLSU-Manila (7-1) in the eight-team quarters.

Group’s A St. Francis (8-0), Colegio de San Lorenzo (5-3), Philippine Maritime Institute (6-2) and La Salle Dasmariñas (4-4) also booked berths in this tournament supported by Pagcor, Mikasa, Pepsi, Splash and the Department of Agrarian Reform.

Making it to the women’s quarterfinals in Group A are PUP (3-0), La Salle-Manila (2-1), Philippine Maritime Institute (1-2) and St. Benedict (0-3). Qualifiers in Group B are Lyceum (3-0), DLSU-D (2-1), CDSL (1-2) and AMACC (0-3). Juniors qualifiers are SFACS, Olivarez College, CDSL and New Era.
