President Cup 2001 karting set at Luneta

Top level karting competition, featuring the country’s top and promising karters, will cap the year’s local sporting calendar when the President Cup is held Dec. 27-29 at the Luneta Grandstand.

A top prize of $3,000 will be up for grabs in the three-day event, which is expected to draw the best and the brightest karters in the land. Foreign entries are also invited to the event which awards $2,000 to the second placer and $1,000 to the third finisher.

Registration is now ongoing, according to PIKP (Philippine International Kart Prix) president Greg Gutierrez, chairman of the organizing committee of the annual event held in honor of the country’s Chief Executive. Entry fee is pegged at P1,250.

Gutierrez said that preparations are now being undertaken to ensure the successful staging of the event, held under the auspices of the Office of the President and backed by the Department of Tourism, headed by Sec. Richard Gordon, Philippine Tourism Authority, the International Karting Prix Association and Automotive Dealers Association of the Phils.

Time trial and scrutineering will be held in the first two days with the finals slated on the final day which the President is expected to grace.
