The city of Manila is sponsoring the first Mayors Cup Age Group swimming championship Oct. 27-28 at the Rizal Sports Complex swimming pool.
The event will be participated in by public schools in Manila as well as different swimming teams all over Luzon. Deadline for submission of entries is Wednesday. No late entries will be entertained.
Manila Seahawks, the official swimming team of the city of Manila, is hosting the event which also serves as qualifying tournament for the Manila team that will compete in the 2001 Batang Pinoy Games in December.
Bert Lozada, who has trained national swimming champions and is head of the Manila Seahawks, said the Mayors Cup is the swimming component of the Kasali Ka sports program of the Manila Sports Council, chaired by Ali Atienza.
The citys sports development program aims to develop sports among the youth on the grassroots level. It started with taekwondo championships held recently.
At stake are 3-D medals and special trophies for the top three individual swimmers and teams, while ribbons will be given to the fourth-eighth placers.
The tournament is sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission.
