Purefoods, Alaska go for second win in row

Purefoods, with its spirit high following the board approval of its indefinite stay in the league, seeks a second straight win in the PBA Governor’s Cup as it plays the struggling Tanduay Rhum squad at the Philsports Arena today.

Alaska Milk, which gained a morale-boost after stopping a five-game skid versus Tanduay the last time out, likewise looks for a second consecutive victory as it takes on the unpredictable Red Bull side in the other game.

The Hotdogs and the Rhum Masters clash at 5:05 p.m. then the Aces and the Thunder collide at 7:10 p.m.

Purefoods and Alaska are both coming from a victory while their rivals from a loss. Still, the Hotdogs and the Aces are expected to have their hands full in their respective games.

Tanduay could give Purefoods a tough stand with the Rhum Masters playing their second game with a near complete lineup including Eric Menk, Jeffrey Cariaso and Jason Webb.

With the three returning to action last Saturday, the Rhum Masters lost a close game to the Aces, 92-96, in their road game at the Cebu Coliseum.

The win could boost the morale of the Aces although the Uytengsu ballclub, which earlier lost its first five games, still sets out the underdog as it meets the Commissioner’s Cup titlist Red Bull.

The Thunder are running seventh in the pack with a 2-3 win-loss card, winning two of their last three games as they have apparently recovered from their championship hangover.

Purefoods has a better record with three wins in six outings, the last one coming at the expense of Red Bull 24 hours after it won its case in the board room.

Bouyed up by the board decision and the return of 7-foot-1 behemoth EJ Feihl from sickbay, the Hotdogs thumped the Thunder, 92-82, last Wednesday.
