RP team plays in Cangolf Open

The members of the national team to next months Southeast Asian Games will lead the chase for top honors in the second Canlubang Amateur Open Golf Championships which fires off Aug. 21 at the Canlubang golf complex in Laguna.
Juvic Pagunsan, Jay Bayron, Jesselito Zaragoza and Marvin Dumandan and alternate Gene Bondoc have confirmed their participation in the championship division of the four-day event which will also serve as part of their buildup for the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Sept. 8-17.
They are among the 127 entries who have so far registered for the event, including the SEA Games-bound RP womens squad, led by Carmelette Villaroman and Ruby Chico-Walker, who are fancied to dispute the crown in the 54-hole ladies division.
Organizers of the event, backed by the countrys top telecommunications firm Globe Telecom, said the listup is still ongoing and will last until Aug. 17. Entry fee is pegged at P2,000, inclusive of green fee and one free practice round on Aug. 16 or Aug. 17. The event is limited to the first 144 entrants.
Hanson So is also in the fold while fellow Manila Southwoods mainstays Angelo Que and Jerome Delariarte and defending champion Marlon Dizon are likewise expected to compete in the tournament.
Also on tap in the event are the 36-hole championships in Division B for men and Classes A, B and C for men and women.
Hole sponsors are the Turf Company, Shopwise Rustans Supercenters, Inc., San Miguel Corp., Inter As Corp. and South East Asia Middle East Corp. (SEAMECOR).
