Eagles, Archers stay at helm

Ateneo and La Salle hacked out contrasting wins over Santo Tomas and Far Eastern yesterday, keeping share of the lead in the 64th UAAP basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Eagles gave the Tigers a dose of their own medicine, employing a choking defense to pull off a 60-51 victory while the Archers overcame a poor start and survived the Tamaraws, 97-87, in overtime.

Thus, Ateneo and La Salle stayed tied at the helm on similar 6-1 win-loss records with FEU falling to 5-2 and UST sliding to 2-5.

While the Eagles worked on an efficient defensive game together, Magnum Membrere, a sophomore guard out of San Beda High School, provided the initial spark on offense with clutch three-pointers. Enrico Villanueva later finished UST off with a dominating game in the shaded area. — Joey Villar
