Guardo new Cebu sports chief

-
Osaka Iridology CEO and sportsman Jonathan Guardo was named new chairman of the Cebu City Sports Commission.

Guardo’s appointment was announced by Cebu City Councilor Jack Jakosalem along with four others — businessman-athlete Jay Aldeguer, Freeman sports editor Nimrod Quinones, Fort president Roly Jonico and fitness guru Calixto Paquiao — who were also tapped as commissioners.

"These people are equally qualified and have committed their lives to sports," said Jakosalem. "We want people who have the time and also the desire to do the job."

"This is a position that has a broad function and I am happy that my schedule is okay," he said. After two years of being active in sports and knowing this is my line, I think everything will go smooth."

Guardo said he plans to spot the areas where Cebuano athletes can excel as he promised to organize more tournaments for local athletes.

"Cebu needs more local tournaments and we will also tap the big companies to continue or even add their commitment to Cebu sports by organizing more tournaments locally," Guardo bared.

"We also plan to make Cebu the next powerhouse in Philippine sports," Guardo added while citing that Laguna has been lording over national sports quite sometime. "We want to compete with Laguna and we’re planning of building facilities, training and discovering more athletes and getting the latest technology to host more national sports events. All we have to do is to know what to prioritize."

Guardo said he will first review and study all the functions of the sports commission before making any move.
