Casas annexes CAP-Legends golf crown

CARMONA, Cavite – From red to yellow.

We’re not talking about the tees here, but the shirt Cassius Casas wore in the crucial final nine holes that somehow changed the color of a championship that once appeared to be a down-to-the-wire finish into another romp.

Like the one Casas fashioned out two Sundays ago at Wack Wack.

"Nagpalit lang ako ng shirt (from red to yellow) dahil hindi maka-iskor sa front nine. Parang pahiyang lang," said Casas moments after he added the CAP-Legends Classic to his growing list of victories, including his five-stroke romp in the Philippine Open two weeks ago.

Casas fought back from two strokes down on the last eight holes to win yesterday, beating the most unlikely contender in the fold and bagging his second pro crown in as many tournaments with an explosive finish at the Legends Course here.

A birdie-par-eagle-birdie windup by Casas left his chief rivals in a daze as the dusky shotmaker closed out with a 32 and a 69 to reassert his mastery of the field while extending his amazing, if incredible run of under par rounds to eight, including the four he had fashioned out in ruling the RP Open.

He had a 274, 14-under, and won by four strokes, not over Mars Pucay with whom he shared the lead in the third round, nor over the rest of the fancied men of the tour. But Casas clinched the victory worth P100,000 over the resilient amateur Jerome Delariarte, who snatched second place as Pucay and company either lost in the face of Casas’ fiery finish or simply faded away.
