San Carlos dribblers dominate Adidas Cebu leg

Cagers from the University of San Carlos ruled the midget and junior divisions while the girls team returned for another crack at the national title during last weekend’s Visayas elimination’s of the Adidas Streetball Challenge 2001.

Before cheering Cebuanos, Team Buzzer Beater, led by MVP Adrian Alforque’s nine points, dumped Team Vision, 15-9, in the midget class while Team Hawk routed Team Santosage, 12-3, at the SM Activity Center.

Abbie Jame Manga, who played in last year’s NCR finals, returned to lead Team Big Court, 10-6, to the girls title over Team Response.

Rodee Consancio towed Team Nitrate to the senior division over Team Baseline, 12-6.

Team Poseidon, composed of Randy Dogmoc, Eddie Abapo, Bruce Arlanton and Erwin Canteviros, ruled the Streetball on Wheels category over Team Specialist, 6-5.

The winners qualified for the NCR finals set Aug.18-19 in Manila. They also won P5,000 and P10,000 worth of Adidas sportsgear.

The runners-up took home P2,500 and P5,000 worth of Adidas sportsgear.

Prizes of the winners and runners-up were awarded by Adidas Philippines Managing Director John Alonte, Adidas Philippines Marketing and Sales Director Sonny Nebres, Philippine Basketball League Commissioner Chino Trinidad, Team Ventures head Emmet Penson and tournament director Charlie Dy.

The National Finals champion will compete in the Asian finals on Aug. 25-26 in Hong Kong, with the winning team earning a roundtrip ticket to the US.

Other sponsors of the Adidas Streetball Challenge, now on its sixth year are Absolute Pure Distilled Drinking Water, Cebu Pacific, Gatorade, Hotel Inter-Continetnal, Salomon, SM Supermalls, Taylor Made, and STI Cebu.
