Literal’s side holds BAP elections today

The faction of Quintellano "Tiny" Literal in the Basketball Association of the Philippines said it will hold its election today with a representative from Asian Basketball Confederation overseeing the conduct of polls at the court library of the Manila City Hall.

"I would say that this is the best way to end the crisis in basketball because we are holding the elections in a neutral ground with an overwhelming number of the electorate casting their ballots," said Literal who will be running for president of the cage body.

Literal said, as ordered by the court, voting will be done from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the court library, located at the fifth floor, South Wing, of the Manila City Hall.

ABC legal counsel Gayrika Perusinghe was to arrive last night to see the conduct of the polls.

Literal’s camp brought the leadership crisis to the courts, saying they couldn’t get a fair treatment from the Philippine Olympic Committee under president Celso Dayrit.

Meanwhile, Gonzalo "Lito" Puyat II, elected president of the other BAP faction, also went to the court, filing a motion for a temporary restraining order before the court of appeals to prevent Literal’s group from pushing through with their elections today. — Abac Cordero
