Navy, PAF best in dragon boat races

Philippine Navy and Air Force ruled the Independence Day dragon boat championship staged Tuesday by the Amateur Rowing Association of the Philippines (ARAP) at Manila Bay along Roxas Boulevard.
The Navymen covered the 500-meter course in 2 minutes 3.81 seconds to beat Air Force (2:05.06) and heavily favored Philippine Marine Corps (2:07.91) in the race which featured 20 paddlers, one steersman and one signalman for every team.
Air Force topped the womens division in a time of 2:25.70. Philippine Navy was second at 2:42.76 while the Dragon Waves was third at 2:45.85.
Sixteen paddlers, one steersman and one signalman made up each womans squad.
