Rosales wavers, trails Davies by 7

-
Jennifer Rosales, out to atone for her missed-cut stint in last week’s US Women’s Open, fired a one-under par 71 Friday (Saturday in Manila) to move to 11th place halfway through the Rochester International paced by veteran Laura Davies in Rochester, New York.

Rosales could’ve actually barged into the top 10 and closed in on the leader, who shot a 68, but just couldn’t sustain her fiery 32 at the frontside of the Locust Hill Country Club course. She closed her backside stint with a 39, dropping strokes on Nos. 14 and 16 while parring the rest of the holes.

With a 143 aggregate, the 22-year-old Rosales, who has two top 10 finishes in 14 starts, stood seven strokes off Davies heading into the final 36 holes of this event.

Davies, the big-hitter from England who is a 19-time winner on the LPGA Tour but who missed the cut in five of her previous seven tournaments, shot a second straight 68 to post a one-stroke lead over Brandie Burton, who had a 69 for a 137.

Like Rosales, Dorothy Delasin struggled on her homeward trip as she fumbled with a 40 and settled for a 74 that dropped her to 31st place at 145 with seven others.

Delasin, who had three top 10 finishes and earnings of $180,138 in 13 tournaments this year, birdied Nos. 2 and 3 but failed to keep her form as she blew that two-under card right on the next three holes, two of which she bogeyed. She gunned down another birdie on No. 8 for a 34.

But a double-bogey on the par 4 16th ruined her bid and Delasin limped with a 74 after holing out with another bogey on the 18th.

First-round leader Leta Lindley, who is winless in seven years on the tour, slipped to 145 after a 78 while defending champion Meg Mallon, a 13-time tour winner, shot a 74 for a 143.
