RP cagers ram Indons, face Thais in final

Host Philippines and Thailand fashioned out contrasting victories yesterday to advance to the finals of the fourth Southeast Asian Basketball Association Men’s Championship at the Rizal Coliseum.

The RP team, composed of the best talents in the MBA, had an easy time in demolishing a listless Indonesian side, 88-41, while Thailand found a tough opposition in Singapore before eking out a 70-60 triumph.

The wins also clinched berths for the Filipinos and the Thais in the Asian Basketball Confederation Men’s Championship set in July in Shanghai, China while setting up a match today for the title.

All 12 players national coach David Zamar fielded in scored at least two points, four of them finishing with double-digit scores led by Christian Calaguio’s 15 points.

"Pinaghandaan talaga namin sila
(Indonesia) at sana bukas tumama rin ang inihanda namin para sa Thailand," said Zamar, whose charges waylaid their opponents with a margin of 55.25 points per game.
