Wind Blown, Silver Story clash in PCSO Silver Cup

Wind Blown and Silver Story, two of the best chargers to have come out of the local turf, clash in a dream match on April 29 as they lead seven other thoroughbreds in the P1.6-million PCSO First Gentleman Silver Cup at San Lazaro.

"We are certainly thrilled to host this very exciting championship match-up between two of the best race horses in the country today. We believe that this race has truly come up to its stature as one of the premier classic races for the year and a must-see event for all avid racing aficionados," said MJCI chairman and president Alfonso Reyno Jr.

Wind Blown, winner of last year’s PCSO Presidential Gold Cup and recipient of the first Philracom "Fair and Square Award" as Horse of the Year, stakes his claim as the best race horse in the country today as he guns for his fourth million-peso championship race.

But Silver Story, the Philippine Sporstwriters’ Association (PSA) and Philtobo’s Horse of the Year awardee last year, will try to prove that he’s ready for big-time racing as the grey galloper, who swept all the major two-year-old titles last year, seeks to add this race to his growing list of victories.

"Judging by the quality of this year’s Silver Cup field led by track superstars Wind Blown and Silver Story, we believe that horse racing fans would be treated to a thrilling and unforgettable championship," said Committee on Races chair Jose Malang.

The event will be run over 2,000 meters, putting Silver Story’s staying power in focus as Wind Blown is already a tested long-distance runner.

Out to spoil the Wind Blown-Silver Story duel are two-time Silver Cup champion Streets of Gold, last year’s champion horse Gold Edition, and veteran campaigners Greely Good, Hammerhead, High Roller, Materiales Fuertes and Sweet Lover.

The official drawing of post position in the blue-ribbon event has been set for April 18 by the PCSO Committee on Races at the PCSO Office.
