National age group triathlon slated

-
Age-group triathletes around the country will take centerstage as the first leg of the National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) series reels off in Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa City on April 1.

Organized by the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) in coordination with the Ayala Alabang Village Association (AAVA), the event will feature a 750-meter swim, 22-kilometer bike and 6-kilometer run course throughout the posh residential zone, which starts and ends at Narra Park. A shorter course (350-meter swim-11-kilometer bike-2-kilometer run) is set for participants aged 14 years-below. The first wave, composed of male 29 years and below, fires off at 6:15 a.m.

The RP team’s newest developmental pool members who are set to debut are Francis Mercado (Muntinlupa City), Sean Lim (Pasay City), Andrew Alon-Alon (Laguna), Jowie Fugoso (Laguna) and Astrud Valdez (Cavite). Mercado and Fugoso had respectable finishes among juniors in the National Triathlon Trials held in Dumaguete City last January. Lim, Alon-Alon and Valdez were recruited during the triathlon tryouts held February 17. Members of the national and training pool are exempted from winning anything.

Interested parties may call the AAVA at 807-0501, and the TRAP at 0919-5807512, 0917-4217913 and 0917-9116842. Registration for the race is P400.
