Chico, Bondoc top amateur golf leg

Former Southeast Asian Games champion Ruby Chico-Walker and ex-jungolf standout Gene Bondoc led the winners during the first leg of the Titleist-Footjoy National Amateur Circuit at the Riviera Golf and Country Club in Silang, Cavite recently.

Chico-Walker defeated Aileen Chua by two strokes for the ladies championship division crown while Gene Bondoc beat Nico Faller for the men’s championship title in runaway fashion.

Joey Lejano and Cynthia Antonio took the low gross awards in lower and ladies divisions, respectively, of the four-day event sponsored chiefly by Titleist and Footjoy and conducted by the National Golf Association of the Philippines.

The division winners of the tourney supported by Christ T Sports, Nextel and GG&A Club Shares were Ronnie Littaua in Group I, Juan Miguel Garcia in Group II, Randolf Cinco in Group III, Enrico Acosta in Group IV and Josephine Barredo in the ladies category.

Littaua won over Islamy Rahmat while Barredo edged Marie Guerrero.

Placing second behind Garcia was Manfred Guangko with Kris Reyes claiming third place. Cinco was followed by Ed Villamor and Rafael Sempio while Acosta upstaged Rick Cortez and Luis Bilbao.

Gift certificates from Titleist were awarded to the top performers of the first stop of a seven-leg circuit.

The next leg of the circuit will be played at the Valley Golf and Country Club in Antipolo on March 20-23.
