P.5M staked in Pasig Marathon

Over half-a-million pesos in prizes will be at stake as the Pasig River Heritage Marathon kicks off at the portals of the Old Walls along A. Soriano St. (formerly Aduana St.) in Intramuros on Feb. 25.

Champions in the male and female divisions of the 42.195-kilometer footrace will receive P75,000 and P50,000, respectively, after negotiating a challenging, circuitous route that will take the participants from take-off points in between Manila Cathedral and Fort Santiago over 11 bridges and through the main roads of the premier cities of Manila, Mandaluyong, Makati and Pasig before crossing the finish line at the Fort in Taguig.

The rest of the top 10 in the 42K distance will receive the following prizes: Male - 2nd - P50,000; 3rd - P30,000; 4th - P15,000; 5th - P7,500; 6th-10th - P3,000; Female 2nd - P30,000; 3rd - P15,000; 4th - P8,000; 5th - P5,000; 6th-10th - P3,000.

In the 5-kilometer side event which will be held within the premises of The Fort, both the top 10 finishers in the male and female categories will receive identical prizes, as follows: 1st - P5,000; 2nd - P3,000; 3rd - P2,000; 4th - P1,000; 5th-10th - P500.

Aside from the cash prizes to be awarded to the winners in this DILG and DECS-endorsed event supported by Fort Bonifacio Development Corp., Department of Public Works and Highways, Metro Manila Development Authority, Unilever, Jollibee, San Miguel Corp., New Balance and Integrated Waste Management Inc., the top three will get glass trophies designed by Republic Asahi Glass Corp. and medals to the 4th to 10th placers.

Special cash awards are, likewise, at stake for the top three biggest delegations with P30,000 for the 1st placer, P15,000 for the 2nd placer and P10,000 for the 3rd placer.

Members of the Sports Press Photographers of the Philippines are invited to join the photo contest with the top three best entries together with the sports editors to receive the following cash prizes: 1st - P7,500; 2nd - P5,000 and 3rd - P2,500.
