DHL Open fires off today

-
The sixth DHL-NGAP Amateur Open golf championship begins today at the Cangolf’s south course in Laguna with reigning national champion Angelo Que seeking to become only the third player to win the country’s two major events. Tee-off time is 8 a.m.

Getting the top seeding due to the absence of defending champion Gerard Cantada, Que will try to add what is now considered as the national stroke play title to the first major he won last June in the RP Amateur which has a match play format.

Que will be bannering a roster of 60 players, including six expatriates, who will dispute the top plum in the event which also features a ladies division for the first time.

The 54-hole ladies competition starts tomorrow.

Rod Feliciano, DHL chair and president of the NGAP, will hit the ceremonial balls together with Jose Feliciano and Luigi Yulo before the first flight tees off.

Also in the fold are Juvic Pagunsan, Solomon Gines, Jerome Delariarte, Cookie La’O, Francis Gaston, Artemio Murakami and ex-pros Dave Hernandez and Rolly Viray.

Meanwhile, Dorothy Delasin and Jennifer Rosales finished tied for 51st in the LPGA Classic Sunday, the kickoff leg of this year’s LPGA Tour won by Korean Se Ri Pak in Orlando, Florida.

Rosales carded a 71 to catch Delasin, matching par 72 at the Grand Canyon Resort Course, for a share of 51st place at 219. Each got $2,717.

Pak rallied with a 64 to snatch victory with 203.
