Laurente keeps lightweight title

Philippine lightweight champion Dennis Laurente retained his crown over top challenger Nonoy Gonzales in Mabini, Batangas last Saturday when referee Virgilio Garcia stopped the bout in the second round because of a cut sustained by Gonzales on the eyebrows. John Paul Perez won by unanimous decision over Julio Agalatiw while Marcelo Aquizar drew with Alex Escaner, in the scheduled supporting bouts.
Meanwhile, the Elorde Cockpit Stadium in Sucat Road, Parañaque will hold the Pamaskong Derby tonight which will benefit the employees of the cockpit stadium. Three-cock derby which has an entry fee of P4,400, will give a cash prize of P150,000. The handler and the gaffer of the winning entry shall receive P10,000 and P7,000, respectively.
