Juico to launch book on sports

Former Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Philip Ella Juico will launch his book, Sports and Governance – Pole Vaulting into the 21st Century, at 5:30 p.m. on Monday at the Kalayaan hall, Club Filipino, Greenhills, San Juan, Metro Manila.

Vice President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is the guest of honor at the launching.

Published by the De La Salle University Press, the 250-page book offers board perspectives on sports policy, development management and history. It includes Juico’s and his wife Margie’s involvement in the post-Ninoy Aquino assassination protest actions culminating in the world-renowned Edsa People Power Revolution.

Juico also highlights the tedious work that went into the preparation and formulation of the vision-mission statement for the PSC and the Master Plan for Philippine Sports. The plan contains the strategy for the development of both grassroots and elite sports. With all these interesting features, Sports and Governance – Pole Vaulting into the 21st Century is considered the first book of its kind in Philippine sports.

"Sports lovers will find a great deal of information on the physical fitness and sports sector and the strategy for the Sports for All policy adopted under the administration of President Fidel Ramos, under whom Juico served," Macapagal described the book in its foreword.
