Foreign, RP triathletes compete in Ironman tilt

Foreign and local triathletes will once again push themselves to the limit as the fifth Philippine Half-Ironman triathlon, the country’s noted long-distance race, will be held at the Sea Breeze Rendezvous Beach Resort, Matabungkay Beach in Lian, Batangas on Nov. 18.

The event, sponsored by VIVA Mineral Water, David’s Salon, Alaska Milk Corp., New Balance, Gatorade, SPEEDO, San Miguel Light, USA Sports, Pinoycentral.com, Lapanday Food, Fitness Shop, Coral Beach Club, Matabungkay Beach Resort and Lago de Oro, will feature a 2 km swim-90 km bike-21 km run course for the main event on Nov. 18. Fun events, which include a sprint triathlon race (500 m swim- 16 km bike-3 km run) and a 1 km open water swim, will be held the next day.

Organized by the Manila Triathlon Club (MTC) and sanctioned by the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP), the main event’s top two Filipino finishers will represent the country in the 17th Strongman Japan triathlon which will be held in Miyakojima, Japan (April 2001), that will be the basis of selection for the Saipan International triathlon (May 2001).
