SHAH ALAM, Malaysia Filipino archers, led by Christian Cubilla and Adelinda Figueroa, bagged 15 medals, including four golds, in the just-concluded Malaysian archery championships here.
Cubilla captured three individual golds, shared the mens recurve team gold with Marvin Cordero, Nerickzon Fraginal and Bryan Carlo Figueroa and also won two bronze medals while Adelinda Figueroa took two silver and one bronze.
"Our archers did well against those from nine other countries," said archery association secretary general and delegation head Ligaya Manalang. "But we have to work hard because the other (SEA) countries have shown remarkable improvement."
Cubilla, gold and silver winner in the 1997 SEA Games, topped the 70-and 50-meter distance and overall competitions with 316, 325 and 1249 points, respectively. He also tallied 337 in the 30-meter event.
Figueroa and Myanmars Thin Thin Khine actually tied for first in the 70-meter distance with identical 308 points, but Thin won the gold for scoring a couple of 10s against Figueroas 8 and 10.
The other silver medalists were Jacqueline Figueroa in the womens Olympic round compound individual event and mens compound bow team A of Raul Ramon Arambulo, Jose Rapadas III and Manuel Martinez with two (FITA and Olympic Round).
